Sony Launching Xperia Z and Xperia X Very Soon

Last year, or you could say few days back we learnt that Sony Mobile was going to announce the launch of a new smartphone.Sony

Initially people expected for the phone to be launched at the CES tradeshow in Las Vegas, but apparently that is not the case, it will only be previewed there, but the launch will take place on 15 January.

The Xperia phone that we are talking about is known as Xperia Z aka Sony C660X. There may also be another handset Sony C650X aka Xperia X that will be launched at the same time.

Since it was the Chinese media who reported this first, you can be assured that these models don’t just extend to China, where they will continue to use the L, M, S codes seen in previous years to represent large, medium and small handsets. Internationally, the Xperia Z (Yuga) is expected to sport model numbers C6602 and C6603.

In terms of price point, the reports suggest that the Xperia Z will hit the market with a similar price as the Sony Xperia TX (LT29i). The Xperia TX is currently on sale for 4,298 Yuan in China (£427, €520, $689).

Specs for both phones include a 5-inch 1080p display, 13MP Exmor RS camera, 2GB RAM, APQ8064 Snapdragon chipset with 1.5GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 320 graphics. The Yuga will be the premium model and feature a water/dust resistant chassis.

You should know that currently in the US, Sony smartphones are only available on AT&T. International the distribution is a bit better, but Sony smartphones are a pretty rare breed to see in the wild.

These phones, and likely several others, should be revealed next Monday at Sony’s 2013 CES press conference.
